![]() Wolf Trapped is the true story of a prodigy. He was born into a comfortable Jewish family in Berlin in 1917. He began drawing When Hitler came to power, the family left Berlin for Palestine. But Wolf would not stay there. At seventeen he went to Paris, the art capital of the world and a place where his political awareness could make a difference. He became well-known enough to be spirited into Spain to do drawings for the Republican cause in the Spanish Civil War. He saw his art as a weapon against Hitler’s evil. At nineteen, he married an older woman. He was madly in love with her. He continued his art as the war clouds gathered. In 1939, World War II began. Wolf was sent to a French detention camp. He was a stateless Jew with an expired German passport. His cartoons had pricked French authorities. In 1940, as the Germans were preparing to invade France, Wolf was allowed to leave the camp. He returned to his art-filled apartment outside Paris. There he and his wife Anne faced a terrible decision. ----------------------------------------------------- Wolf Trapped is illustrated with over 200 drawings, paintings, and political cartoons done by Wolf in his short life. It sets Wolf’s story against the bloody events that wracked Europe and that still affect our lives to this day. Wolf always hoped that people would identify him as an artist, not just as a Jew. But the times in which he lived made that an impossible hope. The book uses the true story of this young genius to help us see the gathering storm that led to World War II and the Holocaust. ----------------------------------------------------- Alpine Guild, Inc. * P.O.
